LOIS GEIST '78
I had a great guidance counselor in high school who told me about this great school in CT. He also told me they had a wonderful scholarship program specifically for IL residents. So I applied - and was accepted. Imagine going to a school 1,000 miles from home sight unseen and where you do not know a soul - that would never happen today! No website to look at, no trips to look at schools. The world has changed.
There are almost too many to count. Probably the best was sledding down the hill next to the chapel on trays from the dining room. Another favorite was having the ability to travel around the Northeast as a trainer for many of the sports teams.
James West - he was my seminar teacher. He also took us on a trip to Russia - a visit I will never forget. Another is Dr. Crawford - he taught biochem. he also gave me a job at Mount Desert Island Bio lab (Maine) for a summer - what a great experience!
Although not a professor I thank John Dunham for allowing me to be the first female trainer for the men's hockey team. He was very supportive.
The most important thing I learned is that I had options I never previously dreamed of. I was exposed to people from very different walks of life and recognized that I had amazing potential - I just had to reach down and find it. And there were plenty of people there to help me do it. It was a very supportive environment.
keeping in touch with friends and getting the newsletter. I have not been back for years.
I was given a chance to do something special with my life, to realize my potential and to meet amazing people. I want others to have that chance.
