-Every time I was on campus visiting, I just knew Trinity was the place for me.
There are so many, it is hard to choose. (I know that is cliche, but it is true.)
Professor Jerry Watts. He was my freshman seminar professor and truly awesome. He encouraged so many of us to be critical thinkers and to apply this to our passion whether that was the humanities or the sciences.
Work hard, play hard. There needs to be balance; I learned to play and not just work.
-volunteering when asked
-attending Trinity events on campus and alumni events.
-maintaining friendships from college
-giving to the college financially
Carol Stack's "All Our Kin."
It was an ethnographic study of Black kinship networks in the Midwest. It turned me onto the personal power of storytelling. And using research to understand basic life questions that are often overlooked - why do we maintain certain relationships?, how do we define family?, etc... This book inspired my master's thesis at UC Berkeley, and Carol Stack actually was one of the thesis advisors for it. It was an amazing example of how life comes full-circle.
